Homemade Mishaps and Mess-ups.....

Ok, you guys know that since I started staying home this year I've been trying out all kinds of do-it-yourself and homemade projects. Some of them have worked out great
and others, well...... not so much.
But I'm not one to give up easily.

This project was making our own homemade fruit roll-ups.
It started out wonderfully, the girls were in their aprons and helping with this after school activity and I we were having fun..... feelin' all "Martha Stewartish" ;)
Just look at these kitchen helpers. Put a smile on anyone's face.
We simmered our mixed berries with a bit of honey and sugar.
We cooked in our plastic kitchen.
We blended really well.
And it went from this:
to this:
And it looked so pretty in the oven.

But disaster was looming. It came out like this, yuck!
I made several key mistakes. I put it on wax paper and it melted all the way through.... definitely need parchment paper. Also, I poured it too thin and some of it overcooked and was hard to get off the pan.

But we didn't give up!
We tried it again a few days later.

More beautiful frozen berries.

Followed our steps...... then disaster again. The little crack at the base of my blender decided to explode into a huge crack and our mixture oozed out all over the counter.
Still not giving up.
We salvaged most of it and spread it on our parchment paper and put it in the oven.
The first tray came out beautifully. Here are the roll-ups in my jar.
The next two trays, which I left in the oven while we ran to the store, came out more crunchy than chewey. Jeremy called it "fruit jerkey" and I called it "fruit crunchies".... either way Zoe LOVED them  and they actually did taste pretty good so we broke them all up and put them in a jar too. :)

Success!..... sort of. ;)
