Signed on the Dotted Line

Closing on the sale of a house can be no small task.

Backing up a little bit, I'll explain what I mean. My mom's house has been on the market for sale since she moved in with us back before Thanksgiving. It was under contract during part of that time and the contract fell through late in the game when the buyer had student loans show up or something and couldn't get the funding. That was a setback. Then there was all the ice and bad weather that cancelled all of the open houses that mom's realtor tried to put on.

Finally it was under contract again around the end of January. This time there were all sorts of nit-picky inspections, extensions requested, and endless demands from one of the most difficult buyers I've ever experienced. All of this led to us having to completely empty mom's house in a matter of two days this past week. We rented storage units nearby and Jeremy took a day off from work to help. Some guys from church and Chris and Todd also pitched in along with mom's friends and real estate agents who let us borrow their trailor. It was a mad rush but we got it done. Then the buyer needed another day or two to sort her stuff out, good grief. Now if it falls through we are going from having a staged home to sell to having an empty home to sell. So we were praying it all would work out, and so were our friends. We had a huge garage sale and sold most of what we needed to get rid of. The rest I may put on-line for sale soon. Anyway, after much nerve wracking waiting and a multitude of calls back and forth between realtors and clients, papers were signed and it was finalized. Mom's house sold! Yay!

Unfortunately, in all the frenzy Zoe and I came down with flu-like sypmtoms. I was quarantined in my room and slept fitfully in fever and chills and aches and dizzy spells off and on from Saturday night till Tuesday morning. Zoe faired much better thankfully. She had fever and headache and slept a lot and both girls did breathing treatments a few times. I guess it worked out that after our 70degree day on Saturday we had a Sunday of low teens, thunder snow, and freezing rain that accumulated enough for school to be cancelled on Monday. Today we are slowly trying to get back to a sense of normal, hopefully with more being awake than being sleepy and dizzy.

And we are all excited to take a big sigh of relief that one home selling process is completed.
