A post that includes a few notes and things I've jotted down over the past couple of weeks:
A sweet word
a silly story
a look
a hug
a laugh & a giggle
the things that make my world go round
the loves of my life.
The way Zoe asks to go "night night" every day at naptime and in the evening at bedtime. The way she wakes up a couple of hours after bedtime and calls out "mama, dada..... more nigh, nigh". When we walk in the room she's still laying there with her eyes closed but has her arm straight up in the air, empty bottle in hand, ready for a little refill. That girl sure does make my heart smile.
The way Carley comes to me and asks to "have a little talk", "make some art", "have a dance party" or "go on a picnic". She always has something special in mind for us to do together, some grand plan in that precious little head of hers for us to all spend time together as a family. She has so much love in her heart.
The way Zoe wakes up in the morning anxious to see us..... but not until she grabs her pillow pet, her blanket, her bunny, her teddy bear and her two baby dolls all in her tiny little arms.... then she is ready for me to lift them all out of the crib together.
The way Carley showes more empathy for the feelings of others than anyone else I've ever known.
These two little ones remind me of me and my sister when we were growing up. Jodi and I were a lot closer in age but there are similarities. They certainly can fuss and bicker over trivial stuff but they also know how to show the most heartwarming gestures of love to one another.
One day after school Carley and I were painting together and Zoe was playing with some toys when Carley says to me, "mom, I have a dilemma."
me "ok, wanna tell me?"
her "well, I think _____ likes me" (*name of boy intentionally left blank, but we know who it is)
me "sure he does, and you like him too. you guys are best friends"
her "umm, no mom he likes me like "likes me" you know"
me "oh, yes I see.... well you can like each other as friends ok"
her "ok"
...... later that same day
in the car outside the gym waiting for dad to finish with basketball practice we see her friend there with his family to pick up his older brother
..... Carley squeals and gets excited and starts telling her grandma the same thing she told me
but she added a little more info to the story she shared with grandma.
Grandma asks "so did he tell you he "likes" you?"
her " well kinda, at church last Wednesday he said he had a girlfriend then he shoved me against the wall and said 'it's you'"
(insert uncontrollable laughter here)
Oh. My. Goodness.
kids truly do say the darndest things
Hope her daddy doesn't read this post
(but if he does I would say it's ok babe don't freak out, your little girl knows she can only be "friends" till she's like 30) ha, ha
Oh dear!! What a spitfire you have there! And I love that little cuddlebug, Zoe... Miss you and your fam. xoxoxoxo
